Product Description
A panel of academic clinicians brings the art and science of the clinical cardiac examination to the bedside with a tour de force tutorial on the techniques needed to elicit various physical signs and to interpret them in relation to the patient's symptoms and underlying cardiac condition. Drawing on twenty-five years of teaching and training physicians and physicians-to-be, the authors integrate the physiology, pathophysiology, and mechanisms behind the various physical signs with a thorough and easy-to-use practical approach that makes physician feel more comfortable and competent performing the cardiac physical examination. The authors pay particular attention to the interpretation of the jugular venous pulsations and contour and make the physiology and pathophysiology of the normal and abnormal arterial pulse interesting and relevant. A unique and original companion video CD presents close to 140 clinical examples taken from actual patients, complete with audio recordings of various heart sounds and murmurs displayed in real time as seen on an oscilloscope. Additional video recordings show both precordial pulsations and jugular pulsations from patients with a variety of cardiac lesions, and illustrate certain unusual clinical conditions through simultaneous echocardiographic images and recordings of heart sounds and murmurs.

Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, Single Volume

Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, Single Volume (Heart Disease (Braunwald) (Single Vol)) (Hardcover)

Editorial Reviews
Review
This is one of the most comprehensive textbooks I have ever come across. It truly leaves no stones unturned and each area is covered in impressive scope and depth. It is an indispensable source of reference for cardiologists and non-cardiologists alike.
The online version is very user-friendly and follows the same format as the textbook. One added bonus is the update feature where all the most recent advances are updated regularly and inserted into the relevant chapters. The CDROM contains a generous number of very well chosen, good quality slides which can be imported for use in presentations.
I would strongly recommend this textbook as a worthy addition to the medical library of any primary or secondary care physician and the online version makes it a very practical reference tool for everyday use.
Univadis Medical Portal, June 2008

REVIEW OF THE LAST EDITION

ABC of clinical electrocardiography
Introduction. I---Leads, rate, rhythm, and cardiac axis

Steve Meek, Francis Morris.

The first 150 words of the full text of this article appear below.

Electrocardiography is a fundamental part of cardiovascular assessment. It is an essential tool for investigating cardiac arrhythmias and is also useful in diagnosing cardiac disorders such as myocardial infarction. Familiarity with the wide range of patterns seen in the electrocardiograms of normal subjects and an understanding of the effects of non-cardiac disorders on the trace are prerequisites to accurate interpretation.

Table Removed (Available Only in the Full Text)

The contraction and relaxation of cardiac muscle results from the depolarisation and repolarisation of myocardial cells. These electrical changes are recorded via electrodes placed on the limbs and chest wall and are transcribed on to graph paper to produce an electrocardiogram (commonly known as an ECG).

Diagnostic Criteria Handbook in Histopathology

Book discription
The Diagnostic Criteria Handbook is designed to help jobbing histopathologists jog their memory and get through more workload in any working day. Rapid access is facilitated by a bullet-point, tabular and diagrammatic style, as well as by handy anatomical diagrams, guidance on the ‘Cut-Up’ with emphasis on core ‘datasets’ and by a special index for frozen section advice, grading systems and scoring systems. The book provides, where useful, differential diagnosis lists and presents diagnostically helpful molecular and immunohistochemical findings. Information is kept up-to-date on a dedicated website http://www.pathbook.com.
The Diagnostic Criteria Handbook in Histopathology is not designed to be an “exam cram” and neither will it serve as a basic text for beginners. Trainees, however, will still benefit from the shear breadth of topics covered in this one small volume: from lab management and lab methods, to autopsy practice, cytology and all sub-specialties in surgical pathology. A chapter on exam technique and mnemonics makes the book also an essential companion for those revising for professional exams.
So why clutter your precious desk space with multiple sets of heavy two-volume reference works? Give this handy Vade Mecum a place next to your microscope and see how much time you could save!

Oxford Handbook of Clinical Examination & Practical Skills

Book Description

Your one-stop-shop for final examination, the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Examination and Practical Skills is the first truly comprehensive pocket guide to clinical examination and practical skills for medical students and junior doctors. Providing clear and user-friendly guidance on all aspects of history taking, physical examination, common practical procedures, data interpretation and communication skills, it gives realistic advice on coping with common situations. In line with current teaching methods, the book takes a systems-based approach to medicine. Each system chapter follows a structured format covering applied anatomy, history, examination, and the presentation of common and important disorders. The procedures section includes approximately forty practical procedures that the final year medical student and senior nurse are expected to perform, from hand-washing through cardiopulmonary resuscitation to inserting chest drains. The theory, practice and complications are outlined for each. The final section on data interpretation covers the basics of chest x-rays, abdominal x-rays, ECGs, lung function tests and several other areas that the junior doctor is expected to carry out in their early years of training. Aimed at medical students throughout their course and student nurses throughout their clinical years, its clear presentation and layout combined with comprehensive clinical detail make this book an ideal guide both for quick reference whilst on the wards, or for more detailed study at the desk. It will also prove useful to junior doctors and nurse practitioners as a primer before going out onto wards, or into a primary care setting.
